Days Out North Yorkshire Moors Railway

NYMR_new_steam_engine_days_outThe NYMR (North Yorkshire Moors Railway) is a steam railway that runs from Pickering to Whitby in Yorkshire and a railway we have mentioned before on Sixties Britain.

This article contains information about the Classic Car Weekend that the railway are hosting which takes place the weekend of the 10 and 11 July 2010 so this is a definite date to put in your diary. However, that is not the only thing worth seeing at the railway.

I have just been contacted by them telling me that a new locomotive is now ready to pull the coaches on the line. The engine, and a fine engine it is too, is shown in the photo above.

Days Out – Sea life Centres

sea_life_days_outWhat I like most is being under the waves and even under the fish and looking up at them!

One attraction I remember from the 1960s was the annual visit to an aquarium while on holiday. It was something I always looked forward to and the good thing is that those days are still with us – except that now they have come of age!

A visit to a sea life centre is a great day out for all the family, it’s fun and enjoyable for the adults and a vital part of the kid’s education. Fortunately, they are an attraction found in abundance in Great Britain so wherever you are there should be one not too far away.

Days Out – 1960s Weekend Llangollen Railway

llangollen_railway_60s_days_outMake a note in your diary, weekend of the 31st July & 1st August 2010 there is a 60s themed event at lovely Llangollen Railway in Clywd LL20 8SN.

This event promises to be a recreation of the fabulous 1960s with steam and diesel trains, period rolling stock, music, real ale and, most important, an exhibition of classic vehicles and other transport from the period. It is hoped, too, that there will be stands selling 60s memorabilia and clothes.

Both Llangollen town and the Llangollen Railway are always a great venue for a day out. Add to this a 60s theme and it should really be worth travelling to see.

In case you haven’t been before, the railway runs some 7½ miles along the banks of the River Dee from Llangollen to Carrog through some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK.

If you do go, be sure to take some photographs and leave a link to them below so that we can all enjoy the event.
