Day Out Elvaston Castle Steam Rally Derby

Elvaston Steam RallyBefore you start wondering, yes, it does have some 60s cars but it’s called Elvaston Castle Steam Rally and takes place at lovely Elvaston Castle in Derbyshire on the 2 and 3 of July 2011 so this a definite day for the diary.

The castle can be easily found four miles south-east of Derby and comprises a castle along with over 200 acres of woodlands, parkland and formal gardens and is worth a visit just for that! However, present on the weekend will be some old steam traction engines and a vintage and classic car display along with motorcycles. In addition there is a model show, a variety of market stalls, entertainment for children and similar activities so it sounds like a good place to go on a sunny Summer weekend.

Co Durham Day Out At Weardale Railway

Weardale_Railway_day_outAnother steam railway day out and this time for our friends in the lovely North of England in County Durham at the Weardale Railway.

Day Out On The North Norfolk Railway ‘The Poppy Line’

Running 10.5 miles from my favourite town, Sheringham on the North Norfolk coast, the ‘Poppy Line’ is a major Spring and Summer attraction that you just can’t afford to miss.

In existence since 1887, the North Norfolk Railway offers a trip through a delightful area of North Norfolk, part of which is an area of outstanding natural beauty. A link to the Home Page is here.

Wythall Transport Museum Birmingham

bus and coach transport museum wythallBuses are an important part of our heritage and, at some time or another, we have all used them so a visit to the Transport Museum in Birmingham can be a great and worthwhile day out.

The good thing about buses is that because they are so important to the community they have been preserved and kept in good running order so many old buses are still roadworthy. And, believe me, a trip on an old 1960s or earlier bus is an experience that will bring back memories for many. Or, if you are not old enough to remember, they will remind you just how good and comfortable modern buses are!
