Another steam railway day out and this time for our friends in the lovely North of England in County Durham at the Weardale Railway.
We featured the railway last year and, for those who don’t know, the Weardale Railway is founded on an old and previously disused branch line that runs from Bishop Auckland and follows the River Wear west to Eastgate-in-Weardale, a distance of approximately 18.7 miles. In itself, the route is a lovely one but there are many attractions this year that make it an ideal day out.
Running 10.5 miles from my favourite town, Sheringham on the North Norfolk coast, the ‘Poppy Line’ is a major Spring and Summer attraction that you just can’t afford to miss.
After the success of last year, make a note in your diary, Saturday and Sunday 30th and 31st July 2011 there is a 60s themed event at the lovely Llangollen Railway in Clywd LL20 8SN.
It’s not too early to remind you about the fabulous day out at the Swinging Sixties event at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in lovely heartbeat country.
I make no apologies for including yet another steam railway as they are both popular and usually a great day out for all the family, young and old.
Like most young men, I had a model train set by Hornby that, as far as I remember, had a nice steam engine and coaches but just went round and round on a track.
Running 10.5 miles from my old haven of Sherringham on the North Norfolk coast, the ‘Poppy Line’ is a major Spring and Summer attraction that you just can’t afford to miss.
