Half way through the decade and still no win for the UK but we have had some near misses and, of course, some not so good results. Maybe 1965 will be our year?
Last year, 1964, a young girl from Italy won the contest and so this year’s contest was held at the Sala di Concerto della RAI in Naples, Italy. Presumably this is the concert hall of the Italian state broadcasting company Radio Audizioni Italiane (RAI). As usual the contest was held in March.

However, in preparation for some comments that I might want to do later, I am looking at a soap that appeared in late July 1965 called ’199 Park Lane’.

I intended my article yesterday on wages to be an attempt to show just how much of an investment (if that’s the right word to use) it was to buy a car. However, several people asked me how much it was to buy a house at that time.
It’s interesting to look back but with houses it’s only ever possible to give an average price of an average house (whatever that is!) since they differ so much by size and location.
Half-way through the 1960s decade and here are the top hits of that year, 1965. This was compiled from a list on the internet so I don’t know how it was put together save that I am almost sure it’s American.
However, each of these tracks was a hit both here and over the Atlantic so this is as close to a UK 1965 hit list as I can get.
So what else happened in 1965? To put the year in perspective, Sir Winston Churchill died, the Beatles got their MBEs, Edward Heath was elected leader of the Conservative Party, the 70mph speed limit was introduced and Ian Brady and Myra Hindley were accused of the Moors murders.
Do you remember seeing Robinson Crusoe on BBC TV in the 1960s and hearing that very distinctive music?
I do, although, I have to say, I don’t remember it that well but, as I research this post, it’s beginning to come back to me.
