Easter Monday, the 5 April 2010 was one of the special working days at the Transport Museum located in Wythall Birmingham. Finding the museum is simple, you just go to junction 3 (not 3A) of the M42 and then turn towards Birmingham and follow the signs.
I spent a very pleasant afternoon there amongst the various buses, some working and some not. Unfortunately, I only managed to get there in the late afternoon but the opening times had been extended to five PM so there was ample time for me to look around and take some photos.
I had heard good reports but I have to say that I was impressed both by the number of buses there and by the standard of the exhibits. The museum houses several extremely good showcases of bus life which cover all aspects and is highly recommended. On working days there is also a small steam powered train ride for the children and other amusements. A good collection of ‘Midland Red’ buses is also held there.
As ever, I have uploaded the photos to the SixtiesBritain flickr site and you can see them here.
Working days are, of course, special but it is probably better to arrive with more time than I did and so I made a special note to attend again later in the year. The perennial problem of parking was present but that applies to more or less any event these days.
More details, including details of these special days can be found on the museum website, the url for which is below:
